Georgetown Community
This small, friendly community is a unique place to settle, with its bustling Riverfront where specialty shops and historic places abound. The median family income is just shy of $35,000, and the town features its own police department, and newspaper. Georgetown history plays a large role in defining the town's identity, and many charming characteristics still remain today.
Georgetown Homes
There are certainly many stunning homes in historic Georgetown. Whether it's a waterfront property you seek, or a nationally recognized historic home surrounded by sprawling Live Oaks, Georgetown real estate can provide several options. Georgetown homes are quaint, laid back and southern by nature, but located mere miles from the excitement of tourist attractions such as beaches and amusement parks.
The Georgetown housing market has not grown at nearly the same pace as the Myrtle Beach real estate market. However, plenty of opportunities still exist to purchase Georgetown condos, homes, and waterfront properties.
Georgetown History
Looking around Georgetown at the extraordinary buildings and tall, strong Live Oak trees lining the streets, it's easy to tell that this city has a rich history. Some historians say Georgetown became the first U.S. settlement when Europeans arrived in 1526. The colony was short-lived in large part because of fever epidemic and slave revolts. However, it was reestablished in 1729 as an area that produced indigo and rice, cash crops that were overshadowed by lumber production following the U.S. Civil War.
Georgetown also served as a seaport for supply shipments to bolster the American troops during the Revolutionary War. Over the years, several notable dignitaries have visited the historic city, including several U.S. presidents. Today, the city's Historic District, site of the original 1729 street grid, is home to more than 50 structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Georgetown Property Types
Georgetown Condos
You won't see very many high-rise Georgetown condos. In keeping with the historic and laid back southern nature of the city, Georgetown condos are more apt to be two-story townhome style, or unique upper-level condos in specialty shopping areas with a riverfront view. Several Georgetown condos feature Spanish and German architectural influences. While historic Georgetown is a relaxing and invigorating place to live, don't forget to view our listings for Litchfield Beach condos, Pawleys Island condos, Myrtle Beach condos, Surfside Beach condos, and Garden City condos.

Georgetown Neighborhoods
Many Georgetown neighborhoods feature distinct, Southern-style historic homes on sprawling lots lined with Live Oak trees. The city itself has managed to stay true to its rich history while adding a variety of modern specialty shops and unique restaurants along the bustling riverfront, which is home to several Georgetown condos. Other Georgetown neighborhoods feature luxury homes located along the waterfront. Known as the third oldest city in South Carolina, Georgetown features a laid back, friendly small town pace just minutes from major tourist attractions.
