Litchfield by the Sea History

In 1978 The Litchfield Company, located in the heart of Pawley's Island, set out to create a private beachside resort that offered homeowners and vacationers a scenic retreat from the Litchfield Beach area. Litchfield by the Sea was a prime location; its north side bordered by Huntington Beach State Park and Atalaya Castle; to the east the brilliant blue Atlantic Ocean; and to the south, Hobcaw Barony, one of South Carolina's oldest plantations and natural wildlife preserves. All of this was just a stones throw away from one of largest walk-through sculpture gardens in the world, Brookgreen Gardens.
