Litchfield Beach is located 15 miles south of Myrtle Beach. This unincorporated community was established in 1978 and is aligned with neighboring Pawleys Island, which has served as a popular summer beach resort for over 200 years. The town name comes from Litchfield Plantation, an oak shaded rice plantation located on the Waccamaw River. The former manor house serves as the lodge for the Litchfield Country Club. The beaches in the area are among some of the widest and most preserved along the Grand Strand. Litchfield Beach offers a variety of activities including boating, fishing, swimming, shopping, and golf. Just south of Litchfield Beach are Huntington Beach State Park and Brookgreen Gardens.
