Whether you are driving through Murrells Inlet or eating at one of the wonderful seafood restaurants you cannot question the area's beauty. Ancient live oaks line the streets of many of the roads in the heart of Murrells Inlet. Just north of Huntington Beach State park and Brookgreen Gardens this quaint, historic fishing village is located on a tidal creek flowing into the Atlantic Ocean.
Although Murrells Inlet was given its name by the post office in 1913, the history in this area was being recorded years before being officially named. Stories of Civil War battles and pirates hiding in the inlet's winding creeks have been passed down through the years. Some of the local restaurants' histories date back almost 100 years.
Murrells Inlet offers visitors many different activities including water sports, fishing, boat rentals/charters, live music, and great food. If you have a boat, from the public boat landing in Murrells Inlet you are only a 10 minute boat ride to the ocean. With two marinas and many different water sport rental shops, visitors can enjoy the inlet like many of the locals do.
