Pawleys Island is just 20 miles south of Myrtle Beach and is recognized as one of the oldest summer resorts on the east coast. In the early 1700's, people from the rice plantations would move their families, horses, cows, and furniture to Pawleys Island for the summers and stay until first frost. On the eastern end of the island, considered Pawleys Island historic district, several of the rustic cottages dating back to the early 1800's still stand.
