Significant growth did not happen until after 1956 when the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base was reactivated. In the 1960's Surfside Beach began to build its reputation as a family beach and by the 1970's public parking and walkways to the beach were established.
Surfside Beach has many restaurants and attractions, and is conveniently located close enough to enjoy the sights and activities in Myrtle Beach. Surfside Pier attracts many people every year to enjoy lazy days fishing, or curious vacationers trying to catch a glimpse of the day's catch.
Surfside Beach, like the rest of the Grand Strand, has become one of the fastest growing areas in the country.
